You try your best to save money but sometimes after a long day riding and a night on the town, you forget to make lunch for the next day. We have all been there. There are a number of choices in Whistler to grab a quick bite to eat. Some are familiar (KFC, McDonalds) but sometimes it can be hard to find a good meal in a new place, especially when your job only gives you a half hour lunch break. This is why we wanted to highlight some local favourite lunch spots. Each one of these spots is great in their own right and definitely way better than that Big Mac and fries you were thinking about eating (we know it crossed your mind). Here are 5 lunch spots in the village that are sure to fill you up, without burning a hole in your wallet. Don't forget to ask for your local's discount or grab a loyalty card if you plan to frequent any of these spots.
La Cantina - Mexican Style Taqueria
$$ - Veg, GF, Licenced - Must Try: Veggie Burrito
This is a hip taqueria located in the Marketplace that is sure to satisfy your taco fix. They offer a variety of taco styles that you can mix and match depending on your personal preferences or dietary restrictions. Justine and the girls are sure to greet you with a smile and the service is excellent. They are also fully licenced so you can grab a Corona or a margarita (which are on tap) to wash down your tacos.
Splitz Grill - American-style Build Your Own Burger

Voted best burger in town countless times, this place is a right of passage for all want to be Whistler locals. With a wide variety of burger types and toppings you are sure to get what you are looking for. They even have some off menu items (like peanut butter) that are sure to satisfy your creative side. Be sure to ask for Splitz Sauce on your burger and some spare on the side to dunk your fries in. Wash it all down with a beer from the Whistler Brewing company or really put your waist line to the test with one of their delicious milkshakes. Lunch line-ups can get pretty long so be sure to get there early.
Peaked Pies - Australian Style Pies & Coffee
$$$ - Veg - Must Try: Steak & cracked pepper pie, peaked!
Leaving home can be hard, especially when you have to leave home cooking behind as well. Thankfully, if you are from Australia, Peaked Pies has you covered. Founded by a Canadain and Australian couple, Peaked Pies have brought the art of making delicious meat pies to Whistler. Want more than just a pie? Have your pie "Peaked" with a healthy dollop of mashed potatoes, mushy peas and homemade beef gravy. They also have a great selection of coffee to get over the midday hump and a selection of sweets to satisfy that sugar craving.
The Green Moustache - Raw Juice, Soup & Salad Bar
$$$$ - Veg, GF, Vegan - Must Try: Buddha Bowl
Want to watch your waistline a little bit or just eat healthier? The Green Moustache takes vegan eating and makes it amazing. Gone are the days of sacrificing taste for healthiness. The Green Moustache offer a variety of delicious organic bowls, soups and salads or grab one of their freshly squeezed juices if you are in a hurry. Our personal favourite, the Buddha bowl, is a wonderful mix of greens, fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts and rice topped with a dressing that is to die for. Grab a freshly squeezed juice while you are there to keep you going all day. Who knew eating healthy could taste this good?
Portobello - Sandwiches & Bakery
$$$ - Veg, GF, Licenced - Must Try: Build Your Own Sandwich
Take your idea of what you think a sandwich is and throw it out the window. Portobello redefines the word sandwich with an amazing array of quality meats, toppings and freshly baked bread. Located in the upper village in the Chateau Fairmont, it is a bit of a hike but trust us, it's worth every step. Portobello's signature is a build your own sandwich menu but unlike most sandwich places, there is no limit to your selection. This means that you don't need to start with a predetermined combination and build from there, you can have whatever you want. Best part, it all costs the same! They don't charge extra for things like more meat or cheese. If you aren't fully sedated by the monster sandwich you just inhaled, they also make their own doughnuts in-house as well as a variety of other sweet treats. One of their more devilish creations is a maple bacon flavoured doughnut, need we say more?
